Jayda Batchelder is the Founding Executive Director of Education Opens Doors, a Texas-based nonprofit that equips students with the college and career knowledge needed to prepare for and succeed in postsecondary education. As Executive Director, Jayda leads strategic planning, program development, and fundraising. Since the organization’s founding in 2012, EOD has empowered nearly 33,000 students. Jayda was inspired to create Education Opens Doors while teaching in a high needs middle school in Dallas. An award-winning teacher, Jayda realized that despite her students’ academic success, their lack of college knowledge was still a barrier. Thus the Roadmap to Success student manual was created. This manual is the cornerstone of the Roadmap to Success program, a high-impact, train the trainer resource used by 55 partner organizations across Texas and Louisiana.
Education Opens Doors provides a comprehensive program that includes a ready- made curriculum and training resources to teach college knowledge and soft skills, ensuring that all students have access to a range of options for college and career success. We partner with middle schools and train teachers to implement our curriculum during the school day. Our model enables us to embed our curriculum into existing classes and reach students across entire grade levels. As a result of our program, students demonstrate increased motivation, pathway and agency toward their goals and dreams.
